June 28, 2023 Final Superintendent Address On June 30th, I will be completing my 38th and final year in public education. I would like to thank the staff, students, parents and citizens of Estill County for your support during the past eight years. Upon my reflections during the past few weeks, I know that these years have been the highlight of my career and I am blessed to have had this opportunity. There is something special about this place! The PRIDE this community takes in our schools is second to none. Estill County loves our “ENGINEERS” and you support all of our students, regardless of the activity, organizations or sports they participate in. Our Community Partners are second to none, and here are just a few examples of their support. On Opening Day each year, community organizations and businesses are lined up as far as the eye can see greeting our staff and giving them little tokens of appreciation just to let them know that they are appreciated and supported. Also, our businesses have been very generous to all of our school programs. During the past eight years, our local partners have contributed in excess of $500,000 in support of the Area Technology Center, Engineer Athletics, School Organizations and Student Scholarships. Our students and their families have been great to work with, and it has been a pleasure to serve each and every one of you. Hopefully, we have been able to not only meet your educational needs, but to provide you with the supports needed outside the four walls of your school. Finally, I am glad that we have been able to complete the $47 Million investment in our educational facilities. Our students deserve the best and now they have it. As I have stated many times, “It is amazing what a “Nickel” will buy these days. Last but not least, I want to thank all of the current and former employees of this district during my tenure. I appreciate not only your hard work, but your caring and compassionate care of our students. As Dr. Stephen Pruitt stated on opening day eight years ago, every employee of this district is a teacher. No matter what your job is, you have an impact on the lives of our students, so please continue to be a positive influence of our students each and every day. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Estill County School System. I love this district and this community. I will miss seeing everyone on a daily basis, but Gwen and I plan on seeing you around from time to time. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of the Engineer Family!
